Victoria Beckam in Martin Maison Margiella skirt

I came across a picture of Victoria Beckham looking insanely stylish and chic wearing Maison Martin Magella black maxi skirt with a button down white shirt while shopping in Paris. I immediately had a vision to  borrow the Parisian look for a formal office wear. It is such a good ideas to spice up a manic monday in the office. Last week the announcement of a not so attractive bonus make me think twice of getting a bright yellow LV Alma BB. On top of that I did a careless mistake in selling off my shares that was awarded last year, which means i have to wait next year around this time to sell it again. Urrgghh.. While browsing Paris to check price of an Alma BB , i came across Victoria Beckam in maxi skirt. She was wearing a Martin paired with a button down white shirt. The skirt cost a handsome USD820 (sigh...)

Victoria is not the only celebrity rocking a black maxi skirt.
See how other celebs rocking super stylish black skirt that is so versatile. You can look serenely elegant if paired with feminine blouse. Look at Emma Roberts and Mary Kate looking amazingly versatile and formal in slim simple black maxi skirt.

Or go for an understated chic when pairing with a simple tshirt ala boho queen, Nicole Ritchie.

Mirander Kerr and Rosie Huttington chose to wear an elegant black skirt for a day out shopping and running errands.

I know you are so inspired and cant wait to try one of the look.

Stacked Gold Bangles

Recently I saw Drew Barrymore looking unexpectedly amazing rocking piles of gold bangles. i used to think that wearing stacked gold bangles make you look busy and indecisive.

My history with stacked gold bangle
Many years back when I was growing up, wearing stacked gold bangles are trendy and embraced by wealthy ladies. The style is celebrated in northern and northeastern states of Malaysia. During Eid holiday and wedding party, women paraded gold bangles stacked up to their elbows (well, it is a bit of exaggeration), sported thick and intricate necklaces and a dozen of rings that do not missed any of 10 fingers. No, I am not describing Mr. T from the A Team. On normal days wearing a half dozen piece of bangle is common. Back then my Psychology 101 said gold jewelry is a status symbol. My mother said it is a way of savings and be stylish at the same time. My family are predominantly from north which heavily influenced by Indian, Arabs and Thai  culture which explain why gold is very much acclaimed.

Gold Jewellery as rainy day fund?
For information to dear fashionista readers outside Asia, gold jewelry in this region is crafted from a 24k or 22k gold and can be easily traded and sell at any gold shops or pawn shop based on current gold price. Malaysian banks offer Islamic pawn broking for gold jewelry for short term borrowing. Furthermore, gold can also be used as a valuable asset as collateral to get a loan. On top of money, gold jewelry is also used as dowry for a bride.

Note that gold jewellery is sold primarily based on the weight and design is slightly costed in. A stunning
bracelet in the picture is made of 22k gold weighing 40g. The cost is 40g X RM 150 plus a minimal charges for workmanship of RM500 (can bargain to a lower cost), The bracelet price is RM6,500 (USD 2,200). This is quite similar to how gold jewelry is traded in middle east. During my job posting in Dubai, gold souq is my favorite pleasure trip during weekends.

Opposed to a modern mall , the souq’s narrow lane is a home to more than 300 gold retailers and estimated of 10 tons of gold at any given time. The shop windows are crammed with necklace, bangles, and earings. Beside jewellery accessories like belts, even car key chains and baby pacifier are made of gold. Back then I can only afford several gold earings. Over the years I established my career and become more stable in income. Oblivious to my root and culture I started buying gold jewelry.

Recently celebrities are seen rocking stacked gold bangles. Seen here are Eva Mendez wearing Cartier and Giselle Bundchen wearing Ippolita.

Jenifer Lopez is the guru of stacking gold bangles. Her favorite Pomellato tango rose gold diamond bracelet reportedly cost USD 50,000 which is seen here worn in different style and pairings.
people magazine
Inspired with the look, I surveyed through goldsmith shops looking for modern design bangles which can be worn both during day and night. At the end i bought 4 bangles, a pair of yellow gold and a pair of white gold. But I definitely need more right? I will show dear Fashionistas of my result and update in this blog. Let's challenge my fashionista partner in crime to come up with one style and see who got the winning look.

Silver Jewellery in Bali
One of the best place to hunt beautiful silver rings is Bali. I have been visiting Bali frequently. Check my other blog about halal food in Bali. www.gohalaltravel.com

Celuk is a village in Bali where 90% of the population is associated with designing, crafting and selling silver jewellery. Talented silversmith design and manufacture jewellery in a studio typically in the same compound of his home. Along 2 km stretch in Celuk, you will see studios and shops of silversmith and goldsmith on both side of the road. You are even allowed to look at how the talented artisan crafting silver and gold jewellery. The daily activities of Balinese communal will go on around the village with no disturbance with tourists and shoppers. You maybe surprised ifwalking into a shop being left unattended due to the owner and assistants have gone to "upacara" or ceremony.

The most covenient place to buy silver jewellery in Bali would be at Ubud Market and at trendy but traditional shops in Ubud town. As a regular visitor to Bali I prefer to rummage through Celuk village with my fashionista partner in crime to look for unique pieces and bargains. This means we have to cope with driving a manual transmission, battered, rented car from one studio to another in a hot and humid weather. However, having to speak Indonesian, friendly Balinese, amazing arrays of jewellery and furthermore accompanied by my fashionista partner in crime has made this activity as a must whenever I go to Bali.

Inspired by Coloured Gemstone Ring
I am inspired by coloured gemstone rings by Tiffany & Co which cost like US 975 (RM 3,100) .

How about something similar that cost far more less than Tiffany & Co? Let's take a look at real gem setting in silver crafted in Bali. The ring is not exactly crafted like Tiffany so there is no need to be worry about wearing something that is not original. Be a proud owner of a ring crafted by artisan from Bali.

Loose cut semi precious stones (part 1)

Cut semi precious gemstone - peridot, amethyst, aqua marine, yellow topaz, garnet

There has been surge of high jewellery paraded by our favorite celebrities on red carpet events. I am drooling over designer and high end bling blings by Neil Lane, Bulgary, Harry Winston, Chopard, David Yurman, Freid Leighton to name a few.

Unfortunately to mortals like us, those  jewellery cost a bomb. Though costume jewelleries are abundant and cheap, fashionista prefers a high quality, real gem blings that add class to your style. We do not need to attend a red carpet event to rock bling blings. A statement ring with a rare yellow topaz is suitable to an office wear. A multicoloured bangle full of mixed gemstones will turn heads if worn to a small party.

Recently my fashionista partner in crime got a handful of loose cut gems from Burma which I have sent out to a silver smith. See pictures below of my gems. The stones are mixed of size, cut and bursting with rare colour of lime green, emerald green, citrine, rose, amber, olive, purple, muave, blue...talking about the colours made me feel like tasting the stones!

amethyst, peridot, topaz and garnet

I can't wait to show the outcome of my creation to dear readers.I shall blog the result in my upcoming post!.

A designer multi coloured gemstone necklace susch as Tiffany & Co or Marco Bicego easily cost a whopping USD 3,200 (RM 10,500).
